Metro Decisions
Relying on the old Metro story standby. Picture this:
You’re approaching a Metro with three, long escalators. Two of them are out. The one that works is going up. Of the two that are out, one of them has a gate blocking the top and the bottom; you can see the gate at the bottom from the top. For obvious reasons, people aren’t using that escalator to go down; they’re using the open one. Imaging my surprise as I watch (from the escalator going up) a young woman move the gate, walk down the escalator, walk down, and move the gate at the bottom to go out.
She made it down okay, but that’s not the point. Wouldn’t you assume that there was a reason that the escalator was blocked, especially when they generally don’t block them off (these escalators are always down). It’s a long escalator and you can’t necessarily scope out the whole situation from the top (or bottom). I just don’t get it. Not that it’s important…I just want to know the thought process.
