Special Food for the Skin to Eat
I probably bought more make-up in the one year I was in Korea than in all my years in the US. For one reason or another, the Korean make-up shops seemed less intimidating.
I realized that in some small way (it’s not like I think of them often) I actually miss The Face Shop, Skin Food, and The Etude House. I especially miss their samples. Whenever you bought anything from these places you’d get some kind of free item.
This was one of the ways I built up my massive, yet now almost depleted collection of masks from Skin Food. Looking at my collection today, I was skeptical of the Snow Tea Mask Sheet for Man because, well, I’m not a man. I wasn’t skeptical for long though. Once I read that “this white tea is good for relieving fatigue, delighting the soul and enhancing immortality” I couldn’t wait to rip that baby open.
Consider my mortality enhanced.
Lamp Hunt
All I wanted was to get a simple lamp for my bedside table using my Bed Bath & Beyond gift certificates. My efforts were thwarted by the fact that all the cheaper lamps were ugly in a gaudy way.
This is when an Ikea trip would come in handy.
RomCom Marathon Sunday
So, of course I stayed up until about 1am last night watching all six episodes of the BBC Pride & Prejudice. I think that I forgot to mentioned that I taped Notting Hill (which was on after P&P on Oxygen) last night. I decided to watch that around noon, I followed that up with some Sense & Sensibility and now I’m watching Love Actually, the movie that connects it all and may possibily get me into the Christmas spirit. Is there anything cuter than Sam and Liam Neeson chatting about love?
I don’t feel bad about my marathon because it’s been raining all day. Movie marathoning is required on cold, rainy days.
By the way, Rodrigo Santoro is much hotter in Love Actually than he was in Lost.
A Little R&R with P&P
I’m continuing my weekend of complete laziness by watching even more TV. At 5pm I came across the recent version of Pride & Prejudice. I’ve already seen it, but there didn’t seem to be anything else on. Within minutes, my love for all things Pride & Prejudice was renewed. After I finished the movie, I broke out my DVDs of the BBC TV miniseries version which I am now watching.
I still prefer the BBC version, but the Keira Knightley version grew on me upon second watching. The key is the Mr. Darcy comparison. (See the Battle of The Mr. Darcys!). The Firth Darcy is more confident while the Macfadyen Darcy is much more vulnerable. Both are extremely good looking so no complaining there.
I do have an unread Jane Austen book in my room (Emma, I think) so perhaps I will start reading that soon.
Holidays = TV Marathons
Unlike last year when I actually needed (okay, wanted) a replacement for my near-death iPod mini, I have nothing that I want to so badly this year that it’s worth fighting Black Friday crowds. (In case you haven’t noticed, I hate crowds). Therefore, I have declared today a lazy day where I refuse to leave the apartment. Instead, I sit on the Lazy Boy and watch television all day.
The TV gods make it so easy for me because holidays always mean marathons on at least a handful of channels. Today, I’m starting, glossy-eyed, at the wanderlust-inducing Anthony Bourdain No Reservations, which is an enjoyable mix of travel, food, and cynicism.
I’m a little disappointed by what looks to be a Latin American theme so far–not because I have anything against Latin America, I just want a bit more variety.
[Oh yes, a Rachel Ray joke within the first few minutes of the Puerto Rico episode!]
Looks Comfortable
I don’t know what yoga pose this is, but it makes me want to get back in shape and start taking yoga again.
AlertDC
I feel so out of the loop. I hadn’t even heard of AlertDC before seeing in a post over at Legally Heidi’s blog and I’ve been living (on/off) in DC since 2001. I wonder if this is a new thing.
Apparently I’ll receive weather and transportation advisories, info on government office closings, amber alerts, and other breaking news. You go also set locations that you are particularly interested in. I guess I’ll see how useful these alerts turn out to be. Makes me hope for a snow day (not that I wasn’t wishing for one before).
Now I’m curious to know if I’m missing out on other “fun” resources provided by the city. Heh.
A meme before exhaustion knocks me out.

Why is the neighbor so loud that I can hear him over my ocean wave sounds? He’s one of the reasons I use my sounds! All I want to do is go to sleep. I stayed up late helping the roommate with ideas for her work slides but his voice is distracting me. I should be thankful that his not blaring his music with the bass up so high it causes my bed to vibrate, but I shouldn’t speak so soon because I have a feeling he might turn it on after getting of the phone.
Luckily he’s not a problem every night, but when he’s a problem, he’s really a problem. Seriously, you have to be a true idiot and/or jerk to play your so music so loud at the times he does.
Okay, back to bed.
I also made cookies.
I watched 24: Redemption tonight (aka The Jack Bauer Power Hour: Redemption). My roommate commented that you can’t wrong with Jack saving kids.
The one thing that annoyed me was the portrayal of the UN officer. Of course, there are issues with their peacekeeping role, but the show almost made the UN out to be one of the bad guys.
I missed the countdown clock! Obviously I’m phoning it in tonight. I’m stressed (Damn you, evil binder!) and tired.
Signing out now.
